Guns N’ Roses, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Tuesday, always gave the press something juicy to write about. Notorious front man Axl Rose’s erratic behavior led to showing up late for shows, and what fan in Montreal can forget the night in 1992 when he walked off the stage before the set was over, leading to the fans rioting?
At the post-announcement press conference, Jann Wenner, Hall of Fame founder and a member himself, spoke about the new inductees that include The Beastie Boys and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
At one point the conversation turned to the paradox of Canadian trio RUSH, who rank third all-time in the most consecutive gold or platinum records, not even being nominated for the Hall of Fame.
One reporter noted how the band’s bland image contrasted with the party-going lifestyle and outlandish fashion of Guns N’ Roses.
Asked to comment on the contrast, Wenner said, “RUSH are too good, too clean. Magazines can’t make any money on a band like that. What are they supposed to write about, the music?”
Wenner denied being a RUSH hater and added that he watched “RUSH: Beyond the Lighted Stage,” Scot McFadyen’s 2010 documentary movie about the band’s long career.
“I got my hopes up when Gene Simmons started talking about their tour days with RUSH, and the time once when half-naked ladies pranced in the hotel hallway. But what were Peart, Lee and Lifeson doing? Reading books.”
Asked why he thinks the band has such a clean image, Wenner replied, “I think it has something to do with being born and raised in Canada. Those people never get in trouble. It’s a publicist nightmare.”

This is the Rock and Roll hall of fame not the who can get into the most trouble and cause the most mischief hall of fame, rush should not be discluded from the Hall of fame based on whether they partied or read books. honestly i think they should be in the hall of fame considering they put their Music above all else. That is what being a great band is all about, thus rush is one of the greatest bands of all time coming in third in most album sales trailing behind the beatles and rolling stones.

Brilliant piece of satire which I would argue is quite close to the truth. Wenner should be executed for crimes against humanity, in general for the piece of crap that is RS, and especially for the clear and utter, lifelong disdain for Rush in RS.

"They're too clean, they don't get in trouble"
Funny, that's exactly what I think of when I think of REM and Laura Nyro.

Love me some REM, especially Monster.
Always thought REM and RUSH were kindred souls, the way they take on environmental topics and such.
