If you are interested in Japanese and Asian baseball, consider joining SABR. Their Asian Baseball Committee is an excellent source of information.
Their latest newsletter has links to a look at the History of Japan’s posting process; two research pieces - one on a Chinese baseball timeline, the other on those players who have played pro ball in Japan and MLB; and an article on the connection between Taiwanese left-hander Chen Wei-yin, who the Orioles inked yesterday and Hideo Nomo.
Most fascinating of all is a reprint of an article by Adachi Kinnosuke in Outlook magazine, written in 1927. The author has a first-hand account of the rise in popularity in Japan, going back to 1890.
