New Trolley Bus in Old Town

Spotted the new hybrid trolley bus in Old Town earlier this week.

Have to say it is not as attractive as the previous ones, but the fleet of five is a definite upgrade in terms of functionality, and having Virginia plates instead of Maryland will end the confusion some tourists felt.

Talked with one of the drivers.   They are very pleased with them, especially so because they have a recording for tourists.   Bikers and handicapped are accommodated too.

The City of Alexandria’s next transportation improvement will be extending the free trolley bus service to Del Ray.    If funding is approved, the service will roll out in the fall.
