Happy 30th Anniversary to the Weather Channel!
Can’t say I’m an avid watcher as in years past, but good memories of their weather coverage and on-air personalities.
Before the web and sites like "Capital Weather Gang" took eyeballs away, The Weather Channel was the go to station. During hurricanes, “Tropical Update” was can’t miss watching. I recall being glued to the TV during Hurricane Hugo in 1989.
My favorite meteorologists were Dave Schwartz, Jeff Morrow, and Vivian Brown. And who can forget the late John Hope, the veteran hurricane expert who never cracked a smile, but never failed to succinctly give the information we needed?
A look back at TWC would not be complete without a joke about the water down there in Atlanta. Or shall we say “The Stork” made a lot of visits?
Like many others, I now get my weather from somewhere other than the Weather Channel. From time to time, however, I will watch, and let’s not forget TWC has given us “Weatherscan,” the current radar and conditions I still look at from time to time.
In closing, a tip of the hat to all their meteorologists who worked hard to bring us the latest, especially those guys and gals who stayed out in the storms. Good luck and may your careers have “ceiling unlimited.”
