Hello Charlotte!
I would have loved to have seen you this week, blue being my favorite color, the North Carolina bar-b-cue, and the family down there. Can’t make it, but we’re happy for you, the big get and all.
We’ll be watching some of the coverage and the speeches. I think I want to hear the First Lady the most. She’s got so much class and serves as a great role model.
Bill sure did have a big fall from grace, but he’s smarter than them all. As long as he doesn’t speak too long, Bubba could make the biggest splash.
Then there’s Vice President Biden. He’s no spare tire, and I think he is the best speaker in terms of firing up the passions, effective repeats, and he has the respect of workers. Just gotta’ hope Jolting Joe doesn’t say anything, well, you know how he can get too fired up.
Fingers crossed for good weather on Thursday. All things considered, President Obama won’t have a lot of substance in his speech, but he’s a great speaker and has very good writers. He’s a sports guy who sticks to his teams so the good folks in the Queen City will appreciate that (Let’s just hope no one asks him what a quarter panel is...).
Charlotte, you remember when you were my destination when I enlisted in the Air Force in 1978? You’ve come a long way baby!!
In closing, let me tell you that I’m thinking of my late Mom and Dad. As you know, Mom lived there for a while and Dad would visit on occasion. They had an interest in politics, and it rubbed off on me.
Mom would love seeing you host the Convention, but I can hear her now, “Oh my god the traffic!” She liked Greensboro better that way.
Dad would have yelled, "Boondoggle," and gone fishing. You are not the Charlotte he knew.
I’ve read where some are saying you were not the right choice for the Convention. I disagree. Jesse Helms had his day, but now there’s a New South, and I think you are the leader in that regard.
So have fun, try to get a little work done, and say hey to Goober…
Best regards from Virginia,
Jay
