CaBi kicked it into high gear yesterday, installing the
last three stations, rolling in the new bikes, and opening up for business. Very impressive.
I just love the contrast of the new and the old in Old Town. Not everybody, however, sees it that way. This week I asked about a dozen people their thoughts on the bike program. About two thirds said good things, while the others worried about the bikes interacting with car traffic.
The Gazette-Packet’s coverage includes a quote from
someone who is, “a long-time critic of BikeShare.” Maybe it’s the same person whose car had a V-8 engine and
a four-barrel carburetor. I must
have passed him on my 10-speed bike during the Oil Embargo in '73-'74.
Anyway, I think Capital Bikeshare is the coolest damn thing to happen in Charm City since trolley cars arrived in the 1890s.
And I bet someone along King Street didn’t like them either….
