It’s official. With a dozen spots to satisfy a
variety of appetites, the 700 block of King Street is Old Town’s “Restaurant
Row.” The newest is Nando’s at 704.
The South-African based chain opened their doors today at the location previously occupied by Popeye’s Chicken.
Nando’s features flamed-grilled Peri-Peri, spicy chicken with five options - plain (mildly spicy), lemon and herb, medium, hot and extra hot. I chowed down on the plain, with garlic bread and cole slaw as my sides. Tickled my buds just right.
But
wait, there’s more. They’ve
transformed what was a non-descript, one plain floor, take out point into something
marvelous. I’ll let my
photos do the talking.
If you prefer a more quiet atmosphere, walk up to the second floor. Three beers including Fat Tire are on tap,
with two bottled imports. The
décor is first class.
Old Town shies away from chains, but they did right by getting these folks. The management and customer service during the first hour was top notch.
Talked
with a rep who said Nando’s is coming soon to Crofton, Maryland, and I might be
breaking news by announcing they will also land at Capitol Riverfront, the
neighborhood next to the Nationals’ ballpark, mid-2013.
Stop reading, and go getcha’ some. And thank you Nando’s!
