For the past of couple years I’ve been checking books out
of the library instead of buying them. Make the occasional exception such as yesterday with
H.W. Brands. His new book, “The Man Who Saved the Union: Ulysses Grant in War
and Peace,” has charged up Amazon’s charts.
I’ve read Jean Edward Smith’s biography on Grant, and don’t normally repeat read, but Grant’s story is so compelling. I’ve always felt he doesn’t get his due, as witnessed by the scholars ranking him in the 30s.
Anyway, gotta’ find time for this one.
