Small tributes exist to the two airports that once were a major part of the scene in Groveton and Hybla Valley. In addition to the Virginia Highway Marker at the Beacon Center, there are several roads in the South Meadows neighborhood with names like Lockheed, Grumman, and Beechcraft.
Fairfax County officials helped unveil a stunning new tribute this morning at the new Costco at the corner of Route 1 and Ladson Lane. Affixed to a wing-shaped concrete wall, five interpretive panels now grace the northwest corner of the intersection. On hand for the ceremony were Supervisor Jeff McKay, representatives with the Friends of Beacon Field Airport, management and employees of Costco, and a small crowd of local residents.
