In the spring of 2010, I took the first step towards surveying the historical markers in Old Town and Parker-Gray. Countless walks and many hurdles later, the finish line to this steeplechase is finally crossed. The books are here!
I’m very pleased with the final product – 232 markers, 128 pages, 24 illustrations. The Acknowledgments section thanks all those who helped, but at this moment, I want to spotlight Craig Keith, the book’s fantastic designer, layout artist, and map maker. Craig is a fellow Alexandria history buff, so that made our collaboration all the much better.
Initially turned down by a handful of traditional publishers, I turned to the self-publishing route. I may not sell as many books this way, but the “d-i-y” process has been very rewarding. The entire effort was a local one, including the printers, “Best Impressions,” located in Old Town.
