Only had time for a brief visit to Gettysburg yesterday. Completely missed the battlefield, but we took it all in several years ago. We did see the new Visitors Center and Museum, a great improvement over the old one.
The star of the show is The Battle of Gettysburg Cyclorama, which depicts Pickett’s Charge. This pair of photos does not do justice to the incredible 360-degrees work by Paul Philippoteaux. The French artist first sketched and photographed the scene while visiting the Gettysburg battleground. The painting was almost 100 yards in length. He first displayed it in 1883 in Boston.
