In the past, if you wanted to shop at 85 outlets in the Washington area, you’d have to hit the road and head out to places like Dale City, Leesburg and Queenstown.
The new kid in town, a much closer option for many, is Tanger Factory Outlets two miles north of National Harbor. Their Grand Opening takes place on Friday morning.
The line up of stores will include: Calvin Klein, Gap, Halston Heritage, American Eagle Outfitters, Tommy Hilfiger, Banana Republic, Aeropostale, J. Crew.
We made a test run today. The new Wilson Bridge and the improvements to nearby interchanges will help with traffic flow, but choke points will surely snarl traffic at the two entrances.
I’m also not sure there is enough parking. A National Harbor spokesperson said a shuttle will run to and from the shopping center, but the location is TBD.
If you are coming from the Virginia side, there are two options. Google and the Tanger official site send you via Exit 2A. Make sure when you bear left at the fork, otherwise you will end up at National Harbor itself.
You could also take Exit 3A. Quite frankly, I’m not sure which will be better, but there are these two options.
Hope it all works out.
