In December, I wrote about the loss of the “Minnie V” and the “SV Potomac.” After many years of service, the SV Potomac was retired and dismantled. The Minnie V was taken back to Baltimore to its home at the Living Classrooms Foundation.
The good news for boat lovers is that the Alexandria Seaport Foundation has put on a new display at Waterfront Park. As the temporary marker notes, two members of the foundation designed and built a wherry.
While we wait for the Alexandria Waterfront Historic Plan to be implemented, exhibits like these satisfy our needs to connect with Alexandria’s seaport history. It is a rich one, that is long overdue to be seen in an interpretive manner.
