The better half and I are enjoying the sight of birds feeding at our new feeder. We used to be fairly avid birders, but seeing as how that often meant getting up at 5 am for the organized walks, we began to wimp out.
Still love seeing them, hearing them, observing their behaviors, trying to catalog in our minds the song and types.
We’re offering them three types of food – safflower, suet and mixed seed. So far we’ve attracted cardinals, juncos, titmice, wrens, sparrows and woodpeckers.
I love woodpeckers the most. I remember the first time I heard a Pileated’s piercing song. But they’re so high up, it takes time and luck to get a glimpse.
Anyway, we were visited by the Downy, the Hairy, and the Red-Bellied. We also got excited over seeing a House Finch.
With the snow we had last week and bitter cold weather tomorrow, les oiseaux really need the food and water.
