101 years after their great grandfather closed down his brewery in Alexandria, and after a long wait to find the right place, Catherine and Margaret Portner are holding the Grand Opening of their new Portner’s Brewhouse today.
As noted by their website, their new brewhouse and restaurant (corner of Picket and Van Dorn), features
Reconstructed recipes of the Robert Portner Brewing Company's beers, seasonal offering and beers designed in the Craft Beer Test Kitchen served alongside classic German and contemporary American cuisine.
We lunched and had good first impressions. I sampled four beers, most impressed with their Porter.
They have a full menu but they said it won’t be on their website for a couple of weeks.
My burger came with potato salad — heavy, but hey, when in Bavaria...
Be sure and check out their website for parking info. We got lucky and found a spot at the small surface lot that has two hour retail parking. But towing is enforced at the area lots. They recommend S. Pickett Street, west of Van Dorn.
Great job ladies. Mr. Portner would be so proud of you.
Prost!
