For inspiration for his first novel, Horace Peter turned to the world of golf.
The story begins with Josh Speier, a PGA player who melts down at a major golf tournament. On the twelfth hole of the final round, he suffers an 8 on the par 3. The leader at the time, he doesn’t recover and losses the tournament he had in the bag.
Despite handling the situation quite well, Speier continues to be hounded by the media who pepper him with questions about the hole and his pysche.
Peter admitted he got the idea for his new novel from Jordan Speith’s meltdown at the Masters last year.
But the inspiration did not come until later.
“I noticed, the author said, just how obsessed the media became over his failure. In the beginning, Speith answered all the questions like a gentleman. But they just kept writing about it as if it derailed his career or he stormed out of a press conference.
Peter said his publisher tossed around ideas for the title, but one kept winning the polls.
"Obsession," the author said.
