Jamieson Street
Today, Alexandrians know the “West End” as neighborhoods such as Seminary Hill and Landmark. In the city’s infant days, West End was a smaller place we know today as the eastern most edge of Carlyle, near the Whole Foods on Duke Street and the King Street Metro station.
This was a working class area, where glass, household goods and beer was made. The Alexandria Archeological digs uncovered a 60-foot long beer cellar, which remains protected under Duke Street between Dulany and Diagonal Streets.
This interpretive marker, part of the Alexandria Heritage Trail, is one of the better ones I’ve seen, using quotes from the Gazette, maps, and photos. From Jamieson Street, near the Public Storage Facility, walk down the concrete path that runs along the creek to find the marker. The marker for Hooff’s Run is located on Jamieson Street at the entrance to the path.
Glad to visit your blog. Thanks for great post that you share to us...
