With decades of service to the community, and hundreds of talented individuals under its wings, the arts scene in Alexandria is quite impressive. In this setting, it takes a lot for a newcomer to make a mark. With her own deft touches, newcomer Leisa Collins is doing just that.
A native of New Zealand, the artist and her husband arrived here this spring. In the span of just six months, Collins has moved in and set up her studio/workshop, completed a series of watercolor paintings of historic homes, hosted her “On the Streets of Old Town” art show, created and supervised a large scale mural painting program in Del Ray, and today, is opening the doors to her latest endeavor, Creative Art Nexus. She will team with and share space with Camille Leverett, the owner of the new BeautyFull Boutique at 118 N. Fayette Street in Old Town.
Speaking of her latest endeavor, Collins said,
…CAN will become a new local community art hub while providing an art mentorship program for youth. I will also give art lessons to both adults and children.. and display my own art work plus the original art of other social minded artists involved with CAN.
The pair’s Grand Opening is today, with an Open House between 11 to 5 pm, and a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3 pm.
